Management is about the present. Leadership is about the future. The metrics used to gauge relative performance are changing as quickly as the weather, yet too few leaders have recognized the full magnitude of this shift, and many have failed to develop the future-oriented predictive metrics that really matter. Leaders are responsible for the future, and there is little to be gained by driving to the future with one eye on the rear-view mirror. Leaders must lean into the business, lift their own game, harness their own energy and focus their own efforts by making decisions about the future, decisions that matter, that create new opportunity and that offer promise.
