In the interests of performance, efficiency and sustainable value creation, Canadian business leaders must improve their game. They have to become relentless, and even ruthless, in pursuit of the truth, and should not shy away from approaching it through the front door. We have to be more assertive. We cannot be afraid to go into the corner with our elbows up for fear we might get hurt or someone may take a retaliatory swing at us. Canada is a pragmatic country, and we know the shortest distance between any two points is a straight line. As a result, we have to stop avoiding the harsh truth and simply begin to call things the way they are. There is no time to waste by taking the long, winding road to the inevitable answer when a direct path would get us there sooner.
