Managing the Vigilance Gap

One way to understand the leadership competencies and strategic mindset required to exercise the kind of bold, pivot-point thinking we need is to view it as monitoring the “vigilance gap” in our business or marketplace. Most business failures occur because the leaders were not vigilant enough in identifying the gaps between the way things really are and the way they would like them to be. Leaders not only fail to see the gaps that can become giant chasms, but they also ignore the signals that would have told them change is inevitable.
